Watched by national selector Geoff Miller, the 23-year-old Essex all-rounder scored an unbeaten 201 off 138 balls with 18 fours and 10 sixes as the Eagles posted 350 for five having been 37 for three at one stage. It set a target Leicestershire never looked like reaching and they were hustled out for 232 in 41 overs giving Essex a crushing victory by 118 runs with nine overs to spare.A sensational all-round performance by Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel narrowly failed to topple holders Durham at Chester-le-Street.Patel's brilliant maiden one-day century lifted the visitors from 102 for eight to 188 all out, and he then sparked Durham's collapse from 127 for one to 177 for nine. For the second successive year against Nottinghamshire in this competition it was Gareth Breese who secured Durham's one-wicket win. Last year the Jamaican all-rounder hit 68 not out and this time he was unbeaten on 34 after driving the last ball of the 49th over for the winning six off Darren Pattinson.
