Geetanjali was found hanging by the ceiling fan at the couple’s suburban Mahim flat on the evening of April 22, 2006. A suicide note found in her hand blamed Navin and his brother Pravin for her decision to take her life.Police had arrested the duo on April 28, 2006 charging them under Section 498 and Section 306 of IPC.Prosecution had also stated that according to the statement of Navin’s neighbour, he used to "beat" her up occasionally, while a house-servant had said that the couple used to "quarrel frequently".But the sessions judge, who asked many probing questions to the investigation officer as wells as the defence lawyers about relations between Navin and Geetanjal.
